Do I need to be in South Africa for import customs clearance?
Yes. Clients are required to present themselves in person at the Customs Office with the original documentation for import customs clearance and a valid passport for attestation of the paperwork.
If I have paid for a door-to-door courier service, why might there be additional charges?
Additional charges may arise in our door to door courier services from exclusions such as delays, customs inspections, or difficult access at the destination. These factors are sometimes beyond our control and not always known at the time of quoting.
How long does customs export clearance take?
Please allow 5–10 working days after loading for completion of export customs procedures, transport of the container to the port, and vessel stack preparation prior to departure.
How long does customs import clearance take?
Please allow 5–10 working days after vessel arrival for container offloading, customs release, collection from the port, transport to our depot, and final delivery to the residence.
Why is the ‘greenlight’ required prior to shipment?
The greenlight ensures that all required documentation is in order before shipping. This prevents unnecessary delays and potential additional costs arising from incomplete or missing paperwork during customs clearance.
What factors can cause delays or changes to my international shipping timeline?
All shipping information and timelines provided by the co-ordinator will be based on current details available from the shipping- and airlines. These dates are always estimated and may change without prior notice due to various factors, i.e bad weather, routing changes, strikes, etc. These changes are unfortunately beyond our control but clients will be kept updated should there be any changes to the timeline.
Can I specify a country for my international move?
Yes. We offer worldwide relocation services without country restrictions. Whether you’re moving next door or across the globe, we’ll handle your international move with the same level of care and expertise.
Do you assist with customs clearance and international documentation?
Absolutely. We manage all export and import paperwork to ensure your international move is fully compliant and hassle-free.
What are the expected time frames for my move?
We provide clear, time frames for our door-to-door services including all types of – local moves, long-distance moves, and international moves. This helps you plan your schedule confidently and ensures transparency throughout the process.
Who will be handling my move?
Your move is handled by our professional team of permanent Stuttaford Van Lines staff.
Is moving insurance included with my move?
Moving insurance is an optional add-on and strongly recommended. While we take every precaution to handle your possessions with care, insurance provides additional protection against unforeseen circumstances.
Can all my items be moved?
Certain items, such as perishables or goods requiring refrigeration, cannot be transported as our vehicles are not temperature controlled. We’ll gladly advise on suitable alternatives to ensure your belongings are moved safely.

Yes. One of our Stuttaford Van Lines move consultants will schedule a visit to your home to provide a free, no-obligation pre-move estimate. Alternatively, you can easily complete our online move inventory list, which uploads directly to our system. This helps our team plan your move accurately and ensures that every item is accounted for.
